Jess Morgan ist eine Singer-Songwriterin aus Norwich, England. Seit vielen Jahren bespielt sie kleine und große Clubs in Großbritannien, Europa, Kanada und den USA. Im Gepäck: Gitarre, Mundharmonika, vier Alben und vier EPs. Jess’ Musik erinnert an die klassische Folkbewegung. Jess erzählt Geschichten. Sie findet passende Bilder, fasst zusammen, was uns schwer fällt in Worte zu packen. Oft melancholisch, traurig, aber immer mit scharfen Witz und Charme. Kennengelernt habe ich Jess 2016 auf ihrer gemeinsamen Deutschlandtour mit Siv Jakobsen. Ich war damals als Booker und Tourmanager dabei.
Am 16.11.18 erschien ihre aktuelle EP And I can’t keep still. Vier tolle Songs, die sie zusammen mit Jay Chakravorty (Cajita, Bryce) und Holly Lerski (Angelou) produziert hat. Musikalisch und thematisch bleibt sich Jess treu. Unvernünftige Erwartungen an den Partner, die Beerdigung einer gefeierten Tänzerin, der Wunsch nach einer vertrauten Schulter, Dim Sum gegen Herzsschmerz, folkig-melancholische Arrangements, ein unaufgeregter Gesang - nicht weniger und nicht mehr braucht es für eine wunderbare Jess Morgan Platte. Ende 2019 wird Jess in Deutschland auf Tour sein. - Martin

What Jess says
It’s been really difficult to choose just ten songs, but these are my choices of sad and serious songs for Miserable Monday. I’ve chosen songs that all have an undercurrent of hope.
For me, the best songs aren’t just the ones I can relate to because they’re sad or deal in some way with pain – but the ones that start someplace and take you to another.
Sometimes that change can happen in the lyrics – through the telling of a story, or in a lyric that just really catches; enough to draw you deeper in and change the way you listen.
Sometimes the hope in a song is in the music and the production – then it’s something unspoken. Often a song’s instrumentation and its production can be a great cue for the listener to lean into a sense of something working that’s bigger than us.
