Kalifornien, Berlin, Valencia - das sind die drei Stationen, die der Musiker Ed Prosek für seine aktuelle EP brauchte. Heimat, Wahlheimat und Aufnahmeort. Und so trägt die Veröffentlichung mit dem Titel „Light As A Feather“ (31.05.19) zutiefst persönliche Erfahrungen, Eindrücke und Emotionen. Die Neugier auf die Welt und den Willen nie aufzugeben, beides geerbt von seinen Eltern, Geschichten über zerbrochene Beziehungen und das schwierige Verhältnis, das es zwischen Mutter und Sohn geben kann - das sind die Themen der Platte und man merkt, dass sich da jemand die Sorgen vom Herzen singt. „Ich hatte einige lebensverändernde Erkenntnisse, als ich „Light As A Feather“ schrieb. Songwriting ist für mich eine unglaubliche Möglichkeit, sich Dingen zu öffnen, vor denen man Angst hat, sie sich selbst zu sagen, zu reflektieren und darüber nachzudenken, warum man sie fühlt.“

02 Gabriel Kahane - Baltimore
I love Gabriel Kahane, his way with words, his complex piano parts and melodies. The first time I heard this song, it floored me. The rest of the album is brilliant as well. A true American songwriter.
03 Rosehardt - Fall Into You
Rosehardt is a high school buddy of mine actually, we hadn’t seen each other in a long time but I heard this song and it described my state of mind at the time so perfectly that I had to reach out!
04 Katie Von Schleicher - Midsummer
I can’t remember how I found Katie Von Schleicher, but every song on her album ‘shitty hits’ is a sad indie pop masterpiece.
Nuff said.
05 Amália Rodrigues - Estranha Forma de Vida
I have developed a deep love of Portuguese Fado music, and genre-wise there’s really nothing more morbid or sad out there as far as I can tell.
Amalia has the most unbelievably emotive voice I’ve ever heard, it gets me every time.
06 Joe Henry - God Only Knows
Funny story(ish): I found this song as the background track to one of TCM’s “in memoriam” clips from back in 2008, honoring all the ancient actors who passed that year. 🤦♂️
07 Anais Mitchell - Shepherd
I don’t need to say anything about how sad this song is, just listen to it and have yourself a little cry.
08 Paul Simon - Love and hard times
I love this song, because it’s an old Paul Simon dealing with his insecurities and the mysteries of the universe through a very small lens that could only belong to a small old man as self reflective and poetic as Paul. I’ve shed many a tear to this song.
09 Camélia Jordana - The Thrill Is Gone
Definitely one of my favorite all time recordings of any song ever. Camelia has an outstanding voice and just delivers the most incredible performance.
10 The Wood Brothers - Sing about it
This song is my current anthem.
