042 – Violetta Zironi

„Scenes From My Lonley Window“ offenbart genau dann eine wundervolle Schwermut und Tiefe.

27.10.19 - Hamburg - Nochtspeicher
29.10.19 - Berlin - Prachtwerk

DIE LISTE

1. Chet Baker - I Get Along Without You Very Well
I love the irony in this song. While listening to the lyrics and Chet Baker’s voice, I can feel the struggle of trying to convince one’s self that we’re fine, but deep inside knowing that we’re not.

2. Norah Jones - Don’t miss you at all
I just love the vibe of this song. The realization of being in peace with ourself, and actually finding ourself enjoying the moment and realizing we’re over something.

3. Luigi Tenco - Vedrai Vedrai
This is one of the most famous Italian songs from the 60s. The singer wrote it for his mother (despite many people think he wrote it for a love). “Vedrai, vedrai” means “you’ll see, you’ll see”, referring to the fact that he’ll change, that he’s sorry that he’s disappointing her, and that he wishes she didn’t love him anymore for how bad he’s being, and it destroys him seeing that she loves him despite all that. The singer killed himself at the age of 27, after loosing a TV singing competition in Italy.

4. Bruno Lauzi - Ritornerai
This song also gets me emotional. “ritornerai” means “you’ll come back”. He’s speaking to his lost love, saying “You’ll come back, when you’ll realize you’re alone and you left behind everything you needed”. I also love the arrangement, it starts really shy and quiet, and the way it explodes at the end is really unexpected and epic. It really portrays how a thought developed.

5. Edith Piaf - Ne me quitte pas
I love the desperation os this song. Edith is really able to make these unbelievable lyrics come across as they should. It’s so emotional.

6. Sarah Vaughan - My favorite things
I find this version of this classic song perfect for the song itself. The shyness of the voice with the simple arrangement really enhances the message of the song. Saying, whenever I feel blue, I just think of my favorite things.

7. Regina Spector - Fidelity
I really find interesting how the lyrics are in contrast with the music in this song. The lyrics are sad and almost narrate a self exam. And the music is uplifting, and really cool arrangement.

8. John Legend - Ordinary People
I love the honesty of this song. The simplicity of the arrangement reflects perfectly the honesty of the lyrics.

9. Rhys Lewis - Be Your Man
I love this song by Rhys Lewis because it depicts a situation that isn’t the usual breakup scenario. I like putting myself in the shoes of the new person in the scene, that has to take on the baggage of the new partner.

10. CocoRosie - Jesus Loves Me
If there is a melancholic sound, this song has it. So heart breaking, that breaking voice that with irony speaks about religion in such a blunt way, with a chanson francais kind of arrangement. Very inspiring.
